“Together,” a horror film with Dave Franco and Alison Brie, has sold to Neon after premiering at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.
The feature, from first-time writer-director Michael Shanks, was one of the rare to spark a bidding war. Yet the sale still took several days to close. A24 was also in the running at other point, with other studios, including Mubi, kicking the tires. It’s not clear what the final price tag is, but sources said the bidding was well over $10 million at one point in recent days. One source even put it at $15 million, which would make it one of the biggest deals in Sundance history.
“Together” follows a codependent couple that moves to the remote countryside to become even closer. And they do, on a nightmarish physical level, thanks to a supernatural force. Putting a meta spin on the body horror film, Franco and Brie are married in real life.
Sunday night’s premiere at the Eccles Center was met with screams, laughs and squirms of discomfort during the film’s more sickening moments. There was also plenty of applause at the end for Shanks, Franco and Brie, with moviegoers debating in the parking lot about which scene freaked them out the most.

This isn’t the first time Franco and Brie have shared the screen. They’ve acted together in “The Little Hours,” “The Disaster Artist,” “Horse Girl” and “The Rental.” Brie co-wrote the script for “Horse Girl,” while Franco made his directorial debut with “The Rental.” The couple last teamed up for 2023’s “Somebody I Used to Know,” which was the first film they penned together, with Brie starring and Franco directing the romantic comedy.
Brie recently appeared in Peacock’s limited series “Apples Never Fall,” starring alongside Annette Bening, Sam Neill and Jake Lacy. She is set to appear in Amazon MGM’s “Masters of the Universe,” a long-gestating adaptation of the popular kids TV show.
Franco was recently in A24’s “Love Lies Bleeding” with Kristen Stewart, which premiered at Sundance in 2024. He also appears in “Bubble & Squeak,” an off-beat comedy that appeared in the 2025 edition of Sundance, co-starring alongside Sarah Goldberg and Matt Berry.
Franco and Brie produced “Together” alongside Picturestart, Tango, 1.21 and Princess Pictures. Tango, Picturestart and 30West financed the film. WME represented the filmmakers in the sale.
