In the second episode of “Live From My Den,” a weekly video series from Artists Den and Variety, Aloe Blacc introduces his new album “All Love Everything.”
In an interview with Variety’s executive music editor Shirley Halperin, Blacc shared that even before the pandemic, he had been used to creating music “all the time, anywhere and any way that I can.”
“I record song ideas onto my phone, whether it’s like typing in lyrics or singing into the voice memo a melody or lyric ideas that I have,” he said. “I’m always creating, so during this time when I get a request to do something, I can go through hundreds of song ideas on my phone.”
When asked about releasing his first new album in seven years, Blacc explained he wanted to focus on his family, especially his daughter, who is also 7: “I wanted to find a way to be home more than be on the road. Part of the reason it took so long to release a new album is because I just slowed the pace of my engagement with the music business. I just decided I focus on this album. ‘All of Everything’ really is about all the things that I love, especially my family.”
The episode also features live performances of songs from Blacc’s latest album, filmed at his favorite studio near his home in LA, which he calls his “home away from home.”
