Police were called to WME’s headquarters on Wednesday after a suspicious package was delivered to the Beverly Hills office.
Though the lower level was temporarily evacuated, employees in the upper levels of the building remained in the office as police assessed the scene. Camden Avenue, where the building is located, was blocked off.
Beverly Hills Police were called around 11:30 a.m. They evacuated about 10-12 people from an office while hazmat investigators examined the package, said Lt. Robert Maycott. They quickly determined that the item was not dangerous. “There was no threat,” he said.
Employees are expected to be allowed back into the building once they return from lunch. It’s unclear who the package was addressed to or sent from.
Following the recent scare of suspicious packages being sent to CNN and U.S. politicians, WME acted cautiously in alerting police about the situation. CAA experienced a similar scare in 2015 when the agency was evacuated after a suspicious delivery to the mailroom.
Cesar Sayoc was arrested in late October in connection with the string of attempted mail bombings. He faces at least five federal crimes, including threats against former presidents. The charges carry up to 58 years in prison.
WME recently made headlines when it broke off a $400 million deal with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia following the Saudi government’s role in the presumed murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
