Twitter Had Technical Problems Loading Tweets and Timelines Again

UPDATED: Twitter had some widespread problems again Thursday, with users across the U.S. reporting issues accessing the social network’s website.

User reports that Twitter was having technical issues began to spike at about 10:51 a.m. ET, per monitoring site DownDetector.com. About 85% of the complaints registered by DownDetector were related to accessing Twitter’s website. The error reports were being logged from all over the U.S., with a particular concentration in New York, Chicago and Washington, D.C.

Web users attempting to access their timelines, user profiles or individual tweets were encountering an error message that said, “Something went wrong. Try reloading.”

By 2 p.m. ET, Twitter had fixed the problems, the company said. “Earlier today we experienced a technical bug that briefly impacted how tweets were loading for people on Twitter. This issue has since been resolved,” a company rep said in an email to Variety.

The problems Thursday came after Twitter was down for about an hour Feb. 11 for many users. The company said that was due to a “technical bug” that prevented timelines from loading and tweets from posting.

Like other internet services, Twitter occasionally runs into technical glitches. For example, in April 2021, the service experienced extended disruptions worldwide that continued for more than 12 hours.

For the fourth quarter of 2021, Twitter’s average monetizable daily active users (mDAU) worldwide reached 217 million, up 6 million sequentially — and an increase of 13% year over year — but that was slightly under Wall Street expectations. In reporting Q4 results, the company last week reiterated to investors that it expects to grow its user to base to at least 315 million daily active users by the end of 2023.
