“Game of Thrones” star Natalie Dormer is set to lead new Celyn Jones thriller series “Minotaur” alongside “Call My Agent’s” Assaad Bouab.
Jones writes and directs the six-part Welsh/French drama, which he created and will be produced via Mad As Birds (“The Almond and The Seahorse”), the prod-co he runs with Sean Marley. Charles Sturridge (“Marcella”) will also direct.
“Minotaur” follows Luc (Bouab), a cold-blooded killer who escapes Paris’s criminal underbelly for the more prosaic North Wales. There he meets Angel (Dormer) who lives in a struggling community she feels she can never belong to, raising her son Joe alone.
“Whilst fighting addiction, Angel gravitates towards the mysterious Luc,” reads the logline. “But as an initial attraction grows stronger and promises a fresh start for both, the past looks determined to drag Luc back into a dangerous underworld. Where does all the evil go? Know your shadows and beware the Minotaur.”

The show will go into production this year in Paris and Wales.
“I have always admired Natalie Dormer and the work she creates, a brilliant, intelligent firebrand that will add so much depth to the role and series,” said Jones. “It is a thrill to work together and the pairing of her and Assaad Bouab has the hallmarks of an iconic screen duo. This story has been swimming around my dreams for a long time, A Welsh/French noir thriller with an international appeal, so you can imagine how strong it is for me to watch it materialise with this incredible team… I think audiences are going to love it.”
Sphere Abacus is selling “Minotaur,” billed as a returning series, with co-pro and finance partners Media Musketeers.
Nadia Jaynes (“The Responder”) and Sean Marley (“The Vanishing”) produce. Executive producers are Nicola Pearcey for Picnik Entertainment and Fields Park Productions.
Dormer is repped by United Agents, UTA and 111 Media. Bouab is repped by Chalcot Square Arts and Media Management and Time-Art. Jones is repped by Jonny Jones at United Agents and Charles Sturridge by Duncan Heath at Independent Talent Group.
