Music Box Films’ genre label Doppelgänger Releasing has acquired U.S. distribution rights to “Mr. K,” which premiered at Toronto Film Festival. Tallulah H. Schwab’s offbeat mystery film, which stars Crispin Glover, will have its U.S. premiere at the Santa Barbara Film Festival on Feb. 7. Doppelgänger plans to open the film theatrically later this year with a home entertainment release to follow. LevelK is handling world sales.
The film follows Mr. K (Glover), a traveling magician. After checking into a bizarre and unkempt hotel, he finds himself trapped in a surrealist nightmare. His attempts to find the hotel’s exit only pull him deeper inside, entangling him further with the hotel and its curious inhabitants. Stuck more hopelessly than ever, Mr. K is about to give up, but then, he makes a curious discovery that will lead him back toward his true destiny.
“We were immensely impressed by the craft and precision of ‘Mr. K,’ a film that’s continually discomforting and disorienting in the most inventive of ways. It’s both an homage to the artistry of Franz Kafka and a demonstration of Tallulah Schwab’s otherworldly powers,” stated Doppelgänger Releasing. “Crispin Glover, as always, delivers a performance that is both unsettling and magnetic, luring us into this world, as if we’re watching through the walls.”

“I am thrilled that American audiences will have the chance to see ‘Mr. K’ in theaters, where they can have the full experience,” Schwab said.
“It’s great to see ‘Mr. K’ find its place in the U.S. market, and we’re happy to collaborate with the team at Doppelgänger Releasing on this film,” Tine Klint, founder and CEO of LevelK, said. “We believe they are the right distribution partner, and we look forward to U.S. audiences getting a peek into Mr. K’s world.”
The sale of the film was negotiated by Brian Andreotti of Doppelgänger Releasing and Klint on behalf of the filmmakers.
