CAA’s Adam Berkowitz Exits Agency (EXCLUSIVE)

Adam Berkowitz, a longtime top agent in CAA’s television department, is departing from the agency, Variety has learned exclusively.

CAA declined to comment on the reason for Berkowitz’s exit beyond confirming he is no longer an employee of the agency. Berkowitz served as CAA’s co-head of television, where his client list included top TV writers like Beau Willimon, Greg Garcia, and Kenya Barris. He was previously a long-time employee of the William Morris Agency, where he started out in the mailroom while taking law school classes at night. He relocated to Los Angeles in 1995 and joined CAA in 1997.

An individual familiar with the matter characterized his exit as abrupt. Another source close to CAA said that Berkowitz’s exit stemmed from an incident that took place at an Emmy party last weekend, though the exact details of that incident remain unclear. The same source said that Berkowitz was known to be a good dealmaker but could be volatile in the office and was sometimes overly blunt with clients.

Berkowitz declined Variety’s request for comment.
