‘Ballers’ to End After Season 5 on HBO

Ballers” is coming to an end after five seasons on HBO.

Star and executive producer Dwayne Johnson confirmed the news via an emotional Instagram video.

“My heart is full of gratitude to all of you for rocking with us every season. You made us HBO’s highest rated comedy for years and most importantly, you helped create and sustain a platform for other actors to have the opportunity to work hard, grow and become household names. To me, the opportunity ‘Ballers’ created for so many others, is the real gold of our show.
I love you, I thank you and enjoy our final season of ‘Ballers,’” Johnson wrote in a farewell statement.

Created by Stephen Levinson, “Ballers” explores the world of pro football through a group of past and present players striving to stay in the game. Johnson plays ex-superstar Spencer Strasmore, who has reinvented himself as a financial manager for today’s players. Other cast members include John David Washington, Rob Corddry, Omar Benson Miller, Donovan Carter, Troy Garity, London Brown and Brittany S. Hall. Levinson, Mark Wahlberg, Dany Garcia, Peter Berg, Rob Weiss, Denis Biggs, Karyn McCarthy and Julian Farino serve as executive producers for the series.

“It has been an honor to do, it has been an honor to produce, and it has been an honor to deliver to you guys, the fans,” Johnson added.

“Ballers” is the latest of big HBO show to sign off in 2019, following “Game of Thrones” and “Veep” earlier this year. Its ending marks a continued time of change at HBO, as both “The Deuce” and “Silicon Valley” are also calling it quits after their third and sixth seasons respectively.
