Maison Margiela’s Tabi Boot and Reebok’s Instapump Fury Had a Baby

The iconic “bloody” red soles are to Christian Louboutin what the split-toe Tabi is to Maison Margiela. The latter of which has morphed into a bevy of silhouettes since it first debuted in 1988, but the controversial style lives on. Today, Maison Margiela debuted an updated version of the Tabi silhouette, this time for sneakerheads.

Making its debut at the French luxury house’s couture spring-summer 2020 show earlier today, Maison Margiela teamed up with Reebok to honor the brands’ most legendary styles by fusing the Tabi with Reebok’s 1994 Instapump Fury sneaker, ushering in the Artisanal Co-Ed collection. A split-toe, cut-out sneaker may sound a bit much, but in a world where chunky, dad sneakers are all the rage (and have been since Balenciaga’s 2017 Triple S shoes), the Artisanal Co-Ed fits right in.

“The shoe builds on Maison Margiela’s analyses of the conversation between humanity and technology in the digital age,” the brand explained in a statement. “Employing the technical inventions of Reebok, it is a statement shoe for the age of the cyber-industrial revolution.”

The soon-to-be it-shoe arrives in a flat version and a heeled version in six different colorways: all-black, all-white, and color combinations including yellow, black and red, and white, blue and red.
