‘Walking Dead’ Star Lauren Cohan on Returning to Show: ‘It Was Different on A Lot of Levels’

Variety’s spoke with “The Walking Dead” star Lauren Cohan in light of her return to the series as the character of Maggie Rhee.

Cohan’s return was meant to be part of the Season 10 finale, but that episode is no longer the finale as it turns out. In light of the production delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, AMC has expanded Season 10 by six episodes while ordering a supersized 24-episode Season 11, which will also be the show’s last.

And even though Maggie has had many hero moments in her time on the show, her return in Episode 16 of Season 10 was one for the books.

“It was different on a lot of levels I think,” Cohan said. “Being away for the period of time that I was gone, I got to catch up on the show and gain anticipation for how the season would end. And then secondly, there were always so many potential iterations of what the return of the character would look like that it was cool to see the done and dusted idea.”

And with the ending of the show now in sight, with Season 11 set to be the last of the mothership show, Cohan says that ultimately the show’s legacy all comes down to the fans.

“Just to thank people for coming on the ride with us and to know that we all felt it together is the biggest thanks I can have for the impact of the show and the connection that we’ve all built with [the fans]. I couldn’t ask for any more legacy than it already has developed. I’m just grateful.”
