“Tehran” was the first non-English language series to be released on Apple’s streaming service in September after it bought international distribution rights shortly after the show’s original debut in Israel in June 2020. The Hebrew and Persian-language geopolitical thriller tells the story of Mossad agent Tamar Rabinyan (Niv Sultan), who goes undercover on a mission in the titular Iranian capital. Sultan is joined by cast members Shaun Toub, Navid Negahban, Shervin Alenabi, Liraz Charhi and Menashe Noy.
Apple TV Plus is in the process of expanding its list of Apple Originals from all over the globe, including another Israeli-produced drama “Losing Alice,” a neo-noir psychological thriller from the creator, writer and director Sigal Avin. The streaming platform is also slated to premiere multiple international series in the upcoming months, including the British espionage show “Slow Horses” starring Academy Award-winner Gary Oldman, the trilingual television adaptation to Min Jin Lee’s novel “Pachinko,” and Spanish and English language half-hour comedy “Acapulco,” starring and executive produced by Eugenio Derbez. Additionally, Alfonso Cuarón, the Mexican directing great behind “Roma,” “A Little Princess” and “Y tu mamá tambien,” has an overall deal to develop television projects exclusively for Apple TV Plus through his production company Esperanto Filmoj.
