‘The Resident’ Renewed for Season 5 at Fox

The Resident” has been renewed for Season 5 at Fox.

The news was made as part of Fox’s upfront presentation for the 2021-2022 broadcast season. Season 5 of “The Resident” will bow in the fall, while Season 4 had aired at midseason.

Season 4 of “The Resident” jumped forward to a point in time when the COVID-19 pandemic has come and gone. The series follows a group of doctors at Chastain Memorial Hospital, as they face personal and professional challenges on a daily basis. It stars Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp, Bruce Greenwood, Manish Dayal, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Jessica Lucas, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Jane Leeves, and Morris Chestnut.

“The Resident” is produced by 20th Television. The series’ executive producers include Todd Harthan, Andrew Chapman, Peter Elkoff, Amy Holden Jones, Rob Corn, Antoine Fuqua and Oly Obst.

Fox has already made a number of renewals for the 2021-2022 season. The renewed shows are: “Bob’s Burgers,” “Call Me Kat,” “Duncanville,” “Family Guy,” and “The Simpsons.” In addition, both “9-1-1” and “9-1-1: Lone Star” were renewed at the same time as “The Resident.”

The broadcaster has also already made a number of series pickups. The most recent is the single-cam comedy “Pivoting.” Last week, the network ordered the drama “The Cleaning Lady” starring Elodie Yung and the county music drama “Monarch.” Other pickups include the dramedy series “The Big Leap,” an animated comedy set in ancient Greece from Dan Harmon, the drama “Our Kind of People” from Karin Gist and Lee Daniels, and the mockumentary series “This County.” Variety also reported last week the network has ordered the crime drama “Accused” from Howard Gordon, Alex Gansa, and David Shore.
