‘Firefly Lane’ Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix

Firefly Lane” has been renewed for Season 2 at Netflix.

Season 1 of the series debuted in February. The series stars Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke and is based on the novel of the same name by Kristin Hannah. Both Heigl and Chalke will return for Season 2, which is slated to debut in 2022.

In the show, when unlikely duo Tully (Heigl) and Kate (Chalke) meet at age fourteen, they couldn’t be more different. Tully is the brash and bold girl you can’t ignore, while Kate is the mousy shy girl you never notice. But when a tragedy brings them together, they are bonded for life — forever inseparable best friends. Together they experience thirty years of ups and downs — triumphs and disappointments, heartbreak and joy, and a love triangle that strains their friendship. One goes on to fabulous wealth and fame, the other chooses marriage and motherhood — but through the decades, their bond remains — until it faces the ultimate test.

Maggie Friedman developed the series for television and serves as executive producer and showrunner. Heigl also executive produces along with Shawn Williamson. Hannah is a co-executive producer on the series.

The show received mixed reviews from critics but has proven popular with audiences, landing at the top of the Nielsen streaming rankings the week it debuted. Per Nielsen, the 10-episode first season was streamed for 1.3 billion minutes in its first five days on Netflix. That was good enough to outpace Netflix hits like “Bridgerton,” “Cobra Kai,” “and “The Crown,” as well as “WandaVision” on Disney Plus.
