Cannes Film Festival Will Require 48-Hour Testing For Attendees Who Aren’t Fully Vaccinated

The Cannes Film Festival will require attendees to be tested for COVID-19 every 48 hours if they haven’t been fully vaccinated, according to new protocols released by organizers on Wednesday.

Delegates will be required to show one of three options in order to access the festival. The first is a certificate “demonstrating full vaccination of a vaccine recognized by the European Medicines Agency.” This will need to prove that 14 days have passed since a second shot for those vaccinated with double-dose vaccines, or that four weeks have gone by since a single-dose vaccine.

Alternatively, festivalgoers can show a negative PCR or antigen test result that’s no more than 48 hours old. This will mean, however, that tests need to be renewed every two days throughout the duration of one’s time at the festival.

The third option is proof of immunity via a positive antibody test or RT-PCR test that is dated no less than 15 days, and completed within six months.

Those arriving at the festival can get tested at a lab set up “within striking distance” of the Palais des Festivals. The lab will be open daily, with free tests provided to both French and international participants. Appointments can be booked online.

Cannes, which will take place from July 6-17, is set to unveil its Official Selection on Thursday (June 3). Already confirmed for the festival is Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch,” as revealed by Variety.

International delegates are currently awaiting more information around a new seven-day quarantine period for U.K. travelers to France that went into effect on May 31. It is hoped that special permissions will allow industry delegates to bypass the mandatory quarantine and attend the festival without having to self-isolate beforehand.
