Amazon Prime Video’s ‘The Lake’ Adds Lauren Holly, Jhaleil Swab, Max Amani for Season 2 (EXCLUSIVE)

Lauren Holly has joined the second season of Prime Video Canada’s first scripted series, “The Lake,” Variety has learned exclusively.

“The Lake” stars Jordan Gavaris (“Orphan Black”) as Justin, a man who returns home after breaking up with his long-term partner. There, he hopes to reconcile with Billie (Madison Shamoun) the biological daughter he gave up for adoption in his teens. Once home, however, he learns his father left the family lake house to his stepsister Maisy-May (Julia Stiles).

Holly will play Mimsy, Maisy-May’s mother. She is a free-wheeling muse who knows what she likes and how to get it, even if that means altering the truth. Mimsy returns to reconnect with her daughter and turn over a new leaf, however her presence promises to bring chaos to Maisy-May’s ordered life.

The character and traumatic relationship were mentioned at the end of Season 1, after (spoiler alert) Justin took his name off the trust and redirected ownership of the house back to Maisy’s mother.

Also joining the cast in Season 2 are nonbinary actor Max Amani, and Jhaleil Swaby (“The Next Step”). Both characters will interact with Billie on a tree-planting crew when the series returns.

“The Lake” was renewed for a second season earlier this summer. Production took place in Northern Ontario from August to September. The series is written and executive produced by Julian Doucet (“Killjoys”) and is loosely based on his life experiences. Karen Troubetzkoy (“Killjoys,” “Orphan Black”) also executive produces.

Michael Souther and Teza Lawrence serve as executive producers for AMAZE (“Carter,” “Call Me Fitz”).

“The Lake” is part of the developing slate at Amazon Canada Studios. Other originals ordered to date include the upcoming adaptation of author Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache novels, “Three Pines,” “The Kids in the Hall,” “LOL: Last One Laughing Canada,” “The Unsolved Murder of Beverly Lynn Smith,” and “All or Nothing: Toronto Maple Leafs.”
