Electric Zoo Cancels First Day of Festival Due to ‘Unexpected’ Complications in Constructing Main Stage

Fans waiting for the kick-off to Electric Zoo — the three-day New York City-based EDM festival — were left disappointed on Friday when organizers announced its first-day festivities had to be called off.

On Friday morning, hours before the festival gates were set to open, Electric Zoo updated its official website with a statement that day one had been canceled. Among first-day performers: the Chainsmokers, Galantis, Acraze and Kx5 (Deadmau5 and Kaskade).

“This year has presented unparalleled challenges for everyone,” producers wrote in the lengthy and remorseful statement. “The global supply chain disruptions have impacted industries worldwide, and, sadly, our beloved festival has not been immune. These unexpected delays have prevented us from completing the construction of the main stage in time for Day 1.”

The note also laid out that all Friday ticket holders would receive a “full refund” and those with multiple-day tickets would “receive credit for one of the days.” All Friday ferry and bus ticket holders will also receive a full refund, and those with multiple-day transport tickets are set to receive a refund “equivalent to the amount of one day.”

“We will ensure this process is as seamless and prompt as possible,” they wrote. Those who have weekend passes can still expect to attend the festival as planned.

“While words cannot fully express the depth of our remorse about Day 1, please know that this decision was not made lightly,” organizers expressed. “We ask for your forgiveness and understanding during this challenging time. We are profoundly sorry for all the inconvenience and disappointment this will cause.”
