NBC Orders Medical Drama ‘Dr. Wolf’ Starring Zachary Quinto to Series

NBC has given out a series order to the medical drama “Dr. Wolf,” Variety has learned.

The show was originally ordered to pilot at NBC back in January. It is inspired by the books “The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat” and “An Anthropologist on Mars” by Oliver Sacks.

Zachary Quinto will lead the cast as Dr. Oliver Wolf, described as “a revolutionary, larger-than-life neurologist as he and his team of interns explore the last great frontier — the human mind — while also grappling with their own relationships and mental health.”

Along with Quinto, the cast of the series includes Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alexander MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, and Teddy Sears.

Michael Grassi serves as writer and executive producer, while Lee Toland Krieger directed the pilot and serves as executive producer. Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman executive produce via Berlanti Productions. Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate executive produce for Fabel Entertainment. Andy Serkis, Jonathan Cavendish, and Will Tennant executive produce via The Imaginarium, while DeMane Davis also executive produces. Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television produce. Berlanti Productions, Grassi and Krieger are all under overall deals at WBTV.

According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, it is not clear exactly if the show will be ready to launch at midseason or be held until next fall due to the ongoing actors’ strike in Hollywood.

“Dr. Wolf” was one of just four pilots that NBC ordered during pilot season, which was truncated by the onset of the writers’ strike that was only recently settled. The only other show that NBC picked up from those four pilots was the mockumentary comedy “St. Denis Medical.”
