A24 Signs Japanese Output Deal With Happinet Phantom Studios Ahead of Launch of Alex Garland’s ‘Civil War’ at AFM (EXCLUSIVE)

A24 has forged an exclusive output deal with Happinet Phantom Studios covering the distribution in Japan of A24’s upcoming releases, including Alex Garland’s action film “Civil War,” starring Kirsten Dunst, which has a highly anticipated launch at AFM this week.

Happinet and A24 have worked together on the release of a number of films in Japan, including triple Oscar winner “Moonlight,” and “Midsommar,” whose gross in the territory was the biggest outside North America.

The companies will also build A24 brand awareness across the region, and deepen relationships with local talent and audiences off screen beyond film releases.

This marks A24’s first major international theatrical output deal. In May, Germany’s Leonine Studios and A24 extended their collaboration by establishing the joint label A24 | Leonine Studios in Germany and Austria.

Keisuke Konishi, Happinet president of
production, said: “We are very much looking forward to seeing what A24, which has produced many creative works in the past, will produce in the future, and we are thrilled that we will be distributing all of their films in Japan.”

Upcoming titles from A24 include “The Iron Claw,” starring Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White, “The Zone of Interest” from Jonathan Glazer, “Dream Scenario,” starring Nicolas Cage, “Mother Mary,” starring Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel, “Wizards!,” starring Orlando Bloom and Pete Davidson, “Civil War,” starring Dunst, Cailee Spaeny and Wagner Moura, “Love Lies Bleeding,” starring Kristen Stewart, “Heretic,” starring Hugh Grant, “Y2K,” starring Jaeden Martell, Rachel Zegler and Julian Dennison, “A Different Man,” starring Renate Reinsve and Sebastian Stan, and “Death of a Unicorn,” starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega.
