Last month, Beyoncé made a surprise visit to the L.A. premiere of Taylor Swift‘s “Eras Tour” film. Now Swift has returned the favor, appearing in London on Thursday night for the debut of Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” movie.
Swift wore a sparkly silver gown with a thigh-high slit to the event, and accessorized with black heels and a bold red lip.
The two pop stars have had insanely successful years, with both delivering sold-out stadium tours and concert films to match. Instead of stoking competition, Bey and Tay have presented a united front, supporting each other through it all.
In an Instagram post after Swift’s premiere, she detailed how much Beyoncé showing up meant to her. “I’m so glad I’ll never know what my life would’ve been like without @beyonce’s influence,” Swift wrote. “The way she’s taught me and every artist out here to break rules and defy industry norms. Her generosity of spirit. Her resilience and versatility. She’s been a guiding light throughout my career and the fact that she showed up tonight was like an actual fairytale.”
Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” film is set to open in theaters on Friday, targeting $30 million to $40 million globally in its first weekend. In addition to the U.S., “Renaissance” is screening in 94 international territories, including Mexico, the U.K., South Africa, Kenya, Australia and Germany.
Swift’s “Eras Tour” has earned $250 million worldwide to date, making $92 million in its debut weekend. While Swift’s film delivered a concert-like experience to fans, “Renaissance” takes more of the documentary route, bringing audiences behind-the-scenes of her latest tour.
Variety’s Steven J. Horowitz praised the movie as “satisfying without being indulgent, but most of all, it’s a monument to Beyoncé’s status as one of pop’s most enduring figures, and everything it takes to get there.”
