Kieran Culkin Wins First Golden Globe for Best Actor in TV Drama and Jokes: ‘Suck It, Pedro’ Pascal

Kieran Culkin won the 2024 Golden Globe for best actor in a TV drama, saying in his acceptance speech that he never expected he would be on the stage. “Suck it, Pedro,” he joked to his fellow nominee Pedro Pascal.

“I was nominated for a Golden Globe like 20 years ago, and when that moment passed, I still remember thinking, I’m never going to be back in this room again.”

“But thanks to ‘Succession,’ I’ve been in here a couple times. This isn’t mine, this is one for the team. I want to thank three amazing women in my life: my manager, without whom I wouldn’t have a career, my wife, Jazz, for putting up with this and all that comes with it, and my wonderful mom.”

Culkin defeated a stacked category of contenders including Brian Cox (“Succession”), Dominic West (“The Crown”), Gary Oldman (“Slow Horses”), Pascal (“The Last of Us”), and Jeremy Strong (“Succession”). The actor portrayed Roman Roy in HBO’s “Succession,” which, in its final season saw the unraveling of the clever, quick-witted Roy family member who was quickly stunned by the loss of his father and tasked with temporarily running the family business.

This marks Culkin’s first win at the Golden Globes. He’s received five nominations throughout the course of his career. He earned his first nod in 2003 for his performance in “Igby Goes Down.” His nominations between 2019-2024 were received for his run on the HBO series. “Succession” is also nominated for best television drama.

The 81st Golden Globe awards took place Sunday at the Beverly Hilton and were hosted by Jo Koy.
