‘Doctor Who’ Star Millie Gibson to Be Replaced by Varada Sethu After One Season

Doctor Who” star Millie Gibson is being replaced after one season, Variety has confirmed.

“Jurassic World Dominion” actor Varada Sethu will star opposite Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor’s companion in the 15th season of the show.

Gibson, who until now was best known for playing Kelly Neelan on British soap “Coronation Street,” made her debut on the long-running sci-fi show in December’s Christmas special. She played companion Ruby Sunday alongside Gatwa, who stars as the Fifteenth Doctor.

Gibson will return as Ruby in the upcoming 14th season, which is set to drop in May on the BBC in the U.K. and Disney+ internationally.

But for Season 15, which is currently shooting in Wales, Sethu will play Gatwa’s companion, a source confirmed. No other details have been revealed about her role. Sethu has previously appeared in “Andor” and “Mrs Sidhu Investigates.”

Gatwa, who also starred in “Barbie,” will stay on as the Doctor.

Showrunner Russell T Davies, who rebooted the cult series back in 2005, has returned to write and executive produce the new seasons, which are co-produced by Bad Wolf.

Season 14 guest stars include Yasmin Finney (“Heartstopper”), singer Bonnie Langford, “Glee’s” Jonathan Groff and Indira Varma (“Obsession”), among others. “Doctor Who” celebrated its 60th anniversary last November.

Reps for the BBC and Bad Wolf did not respond to Variety‘s request for comment. The Daily Mirror was first to report the news.
