Paramount’s “Mean Girls” continued its sway over the U.K. and Ireland box office with £1.4 million ($1.8 million), according to numbers from Comscore.
The musical teen comedy now has a total of £5.5 million after two weekends on release. Disney’s acclaimed “All of Us Strangers,” directed by Andrew Haigh and starring Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal, debuted in second place with £1.1 million.
Warner Bros.’ “Wonka” collected £1.04 million in third position and after eight weekends on release has a total of £59.7 million. In fourth place, in its fifth weekend, Sony’s “Anyone But You” earned £817,810 for a total of £8.3 million.
Rounding off the top five was Disney’s double Golden Globe winner “Poor Things” that took in £690,024 in its third weekend for a total of £5.06 million.
There were two debuts in the top 10. Viacom18’s Bollywood air force epic “Fighter,” which topped the global box office with $25 million, scored £590,146 in the U.K. and Ireland in seventh place. In eighth position, Warner Bros.’ “The Color Purple” had £452,364.
There are two mid-week releases on Wednesday, Jan. 31. Anime Ltd is releasing anime title “Blue Giant,” while Trafalgar Releasing is opening concert film “Pet Shop Boys Dreamworld: The Greatest Hits Live at the Royal Arena.”
On Thursday, Feb. 1, CinemaLive is bowing “Kinky Boots – The Musical,” a filmed version of the popular stage musical, and KOVA is debuting “The Chosen” Season 4, a modern imagining of the life of Jesus Christ and his disciples.
The widest releases on the Friday are a pair of Universal releases that are opening across more than 300 locations each – animation “Migration,” with a voice cast of Kumail Nanjiani, Elizabeth Banks, Awkwafina, Keegan-Michael Key, David Mitchell, Carol Kane, Caspar Jennings, Tresi Gazal and Danny DeVito; and caper “Argyll,” with Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Henry Cavill, John Cena, Dua Lipa, Bryan Cranston, Sofia Boutella, with Ariana DeBose and Catherine O’Hara and Samuel L. Jackson.
A24 is opening Jonathan Glazer’s awards season favorite and Cannes winner “The Zone of Interest” and Curzon another awards frontrunner “American Fiction.” Dogwoof is releasing Kim Longinotto and Franky Murray Brown’s acclaimed music documentary “Dalton’s Dream.”
Among re-releases, Park Circus is bowing a 4K remastered version of Terrence Malick masterpiece “Days of Heaven” and “10 Things I Hate About You” on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.
