Variety Promotes Katcy Stephan to Film Reporter

Katcy Stephan has been promoted to film reporter for Variety.

Stephan joined Variety in 2021 as social media editor. Under her leadership, Variety’s cumulative social footprint across major platforms has nearly doubled, reaching 12 million total followers as of this month across TikTok, X, Instagram, Facebook and other platforms.

With her advancement to reporter, Stephan will focus on news, features and analysis related content deals and business activity at Hollywood’s major studios and independent film distributors. She will also serve as Variety‘s primary reporter covering talent agencies and management firms. Based in Los Angeles, Stephan reports to Brent Lang, Variety‘s executive editor who oversees all film and media coverage.

“I’m impressed by Katcy’s hustle and passion for the film industry, as well as by her writing ability. She hit the ground running, contributing greatly to our coverage and establishing herself as a trusted voice,” Lang said. “Watch this space for her scoops and analysis.”

In 2023, Stephan demonstrated her range by expanding beyond her social media purview to write profiles for the print edition of actors Sam Claflin and Lizzy Caplan. She also penned the Power of Women cover story on Billie Eilish.

Before joining Variety, Stephan held editorial posts at “Access Hollywood” and BuzzFeed News. At BuzzFeed, she was responsible for creating original content for social media platforms and appeared regularly as an on-camera media and pop culture expert.

Stephan is a graduate of Providence College in Rhode Island, and she earned a master’s degree in journalism from USC.
