Cheers to Paramount+‘s “Frasier” revival, which has just landed a Season 2 order at the streamer. The new “Frasier,” which stars Kelsey Grammer in the role he first made famous on “Cheers,” and then on the original “Frasier” (1993-2004), premiered in October with 10 episodes.
Last November, Grammer expressed his desire to keep the new “Frasier” going for as long as possible. “I think we should go to another 100 episodes at least,” he told Variety at the time. “There’s enough groundwork laid between these human beings; they are wonderful characters. I want to see where they go. And I want to see what happens to Frasier.”
CBS Studios produces “Frasier,” which will continue to shoot at Paramount Studios, in front of a live studio audience.
“’Frasier’ is a love story, and I am very happy we will be allowed to continue it,” Grammer said in a statement. “I’m delighted that our partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+ are on board for another season, and I can’t wait for the fans to see what we have in store.”

The new “Frasier” centers on Grammer’s titular character, 20 years after we last saw him preparing for a move to Chicago. Frasier spent the next two decades as a talk show host in the Windy City, but now that has wrapped, and he’s moved back to Boston to reconnect with his grown son, Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott), and nephew David (Anders Keith). An old Oxford chum, Alan (Nicholas Lyndhurst), soon convinces him to try his hand as a Harvard instructor, in a psychology department run by Olivia (Toks Olagundoye). Jess Salgueiro also stars as Freddy’s pal Eve, who lives across the hall from Frasier and son.
Guest stars from the “Cheers”/”Frasier” creative universe in Season 1 were Bebe Neuwirth as Freddy’s mother and Frasier’s ex, Lilith, and Peri Gilpin as Roz, Frasier’s former radio producer.
Chris Harris (“How I Met Your Mother”) and Joe Cristalli (“Life in Pieces”) are showrunners on the new “Frasier,” and executive produce with Grammer, Tom Russo and Jordan McMahon. The series is produced by CBS Studios, in association with Grammer’s Grammnet NH Productions.
“Kelsey made a triumphant return as one of the most iconic and beloved characters on television,” said Jeff Grossman, Paramount+’s exec VP of programming. “The new series introduced ‘Frasier’ to a whole new generation while reminding fans of Kelsey’s truly timeless portrayal of Dr. Crane. The new “Frasier” premiered 30 years since the original series first launched; that “Frasier” still holds the record for most comedy series Emmy wins (37). Legendary TV director and producer James Burrows, who was one of the creatives behind “Cheers” and who also directed the original “Frasier” pilot, helmed the first two episodes of the new “Frasier” as well.
