‘Handmaid’s Tale’ Star Yvonne Strahovski to Lead Peacock Horror Thriller Series ‘Teacup’

Yvonne Strahovski has been tapped for the lead role in the upcoming Peacock series “Teacup.”

Described as a horror thriller, “Teacup” hails from writer Ian McCulloch with James Wan and Atomic Monster attached to executive produce.

Inspired by the Robert McCammon novel “Stinger,” the series is said to follow “a disparate group of people in rural Georgia who must come together in the face of a mysterious threat in order to survive.” Strahovski will star as Maggie Chenoweth.

Strahovski has received two Emmy Award nominations for her work on Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” on which she has starred as Serena Joy Waterford since the show began. The sixth and final season is expected to air in 2025. Strahovski is also known for shows like “Stateless” and “Dexter” and for films like “The Predator” and “The Tomorrow War.”

She is repped by Paradigm, AFA Prime Talent Media, R&CPMK, and Gretchen Rush.

McCulloch serves as writer and executive producer on “Teacup.” E.L. Katz will direct the first episode and executive produce. Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett all executive produce on behalf of Atomic Monster. Francisca X. Hu, Kevin Tancharoen, and McCammon all executive produce as well. Strahovski will produce in addition to starring. UCP is the studio.

“Teacup” is one of two recent series orders for Atomic Monster at Peacock. It was recently announced that the streamer had ordered an untitled espionage sci-fi thriller series from the company with Simu Liu attached to star. Thomas Brandon is the writer and co-showrunner of that series, with Jennifer Yale also joining as co-showrunner.
