‘Starstruck’ Star Rose Matafeo Debuts Trailer for Max Comedy Special ‘On and On and On’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Rose Matafeo, the creator and star of Max’s “Starstruck,” has released the trailer for her second stand-up special, “On and On and On,” streaming Dec. 19 on Max.

Based on a 16,000-word note kept over time on her phone, the comedy hour sees Matafeo musing on relationships — and the end of relationships.

“I’m very bad at endings. In the most recent break-up I went through, I genuinely found myself Googling: ‘Can you be broken up with for being too cool?’” Matafeo quips in the trailer.

The comedian also touches on the differences between dating in your 20s versus 30s.

“When you’re in your 20s, you’re still figuring out who you are, so you don’t have to take that rejection as personally. But when you’re dumped in your 30s, you are being dumped for who you truly are,” Matafeo jokes.

In another bit, the New Zealand-born performer says she knows she is aging because she has started saying “safe travels” often, adding, “If you’ve ever seen a teenager say ‘safe travels,’ that is an undercover cop.”

Per the logline for “On and On and On,” Matafeo “also explores whether she wants children, how aging has impacted her comedy and her strong feelings about online relationship coaching.”

Matafeo is a writer, director, actor and comedian whose previous comedy special “Horndog” won the award for best show at the famed Edinburgh Fringe Festival before debuting on HBO Max in 2020. Her series “Starstruck,” about a woman who has a one-night stand with a famous movie star, became an international hit. She also voiced a role in Disney’s “Moana 2.”

“On and On and On” is directed by Barbara Wiltshire. Executive producers include Richard Allen-Turner, Cath Gagon, Alice Snedden, Jon Thoday and Matafeo. Avalon (“Starstruck,” “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver”) is the producer.
