Matt Gaetz Joins Right-Wing Network OAN as Anchor After Bowing Out as Trump’s Attorney General Pick

Matt Gaetz, the former GOP congressional rep who last month withdrew as President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for U.S. attorney general, has a new gig: hosting a weeknight show on right-wing outlet One American News.

OAN announced Tuesday that he will join the network’s primetime lineup beginning in January with “The Matt Gaetz Show.” The show is slated to air weeknights at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Gaetz, in a statement provided by the outlet, said, “OAN is blazing a trail in media, embracing not just traditional news but the platforms where Americans are going — streaming, apps, podcasts and social media. I couldn’t be more thrilled to join OAN’s forward-thinking team and be part of this revolutionary expansion.”

Gaetz served as the U.S. representative for Florida’s 1st congressional district from 2017 until his resignation in 2024, when Trump announced Gaetz as his pick for attorney general. On Nov. 21, Gaetz withdrew from consideration for the AG appointment, a day after the New York Times reported that federal investigators had “documented a set of payments that he and his associates made in connection with drug-fueled sex parties from 2017 to 2020.” The House Ethics Committee had been set to vote on the release of a report on its investigation into allegations that Gaetz engaged in sexual misconduct and illicit drug use on Nov. 22; the vote was tabled after Gaetz resigned from Congress. Gaetz has repeatedly denied the allegations.

Along with his OAN primetime show, Gaetz also will co-host a weekly podcast with Dan Ball, host of “Real America With Dan Ball,” launching in January. The podcast “will deliver fresh perspectives and unfiltered conversations tailored for Millennials, late Gen Z and early Gen Xers,” according to OAN.

“We’ve been big fans of Matt Gaetz from day one,” Ball said in a statement. “We admire his leadership and authenticity, and we’re confident he’ll really connect with our viewers. It’s an exciting partnership that’s going to take OAN to the next level.”

According to CNN, which broke the news of Gaetz’s joining OAN, “OAN has established itself as perhaps the most extreme of the pro-Trump news outlets.” Per CNN’s report, “The little-watched network regularly gives airtime to baseless conspiracy theories that support Trump. The channel even worked closely with Russian operatives on a propaganda-style documentary during Trump’s first impeachment in 2019 over allegations he pressured Ukraine to investigate his political rivals.”
