Zarna Garg is set to star in a multi-cam comedy pilot that has been ordered at CBS, Variety has learned.
Garg will also write and executive produce the pilot, which is titled “Zarna.” Darlene Hunt (“Call Me Kat,” “The Big C”) is also attached as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. The project was first reported to be in development back in September.
Mindy Kaling and Jessica Kumai Scott are executive producing under the Kaling International banner along with Howard Klein of 3 Arts Entertainment as well as Kevin Hart, Bryan Smiley, and Mike Stein via Hartbeat. Warner Bros. Television, where Kaling International is under an overall deal, is the studio.
The official logline for the pilot states, “Zarna is a proud immigrant woman who’s been raising her American born kids on Indian values. But now that they’re getting older, it’s time for her to focus on her own American dream.”

Garg is a celebrated stand up comedian, most recently releasing the comedy special “One in a Billion” in 2023 on Amazon Prime Video. She also won Hart’s Peacock comedy competition series “Lyft Comics” in 2021. As an actress, she previously starred in the comedy feature “A Nice Indian Boy.” As a writer, her screenplay titled “Rearranged” won the best comedy screenplay award at the 2019 Austin Film Festival and was also a semi-finalist for the Academy Nicholl Fellowships.
She is repped by WME, 3 Arts, and Hansen Jacobson. Hunt is repped by UTA and McKuin Frankel Whitehead.
This is now the second CBS comedy pilot order in the past several months. The broadcaster previously ordered the single-cam comedy pilot “DMV” with an ensemble cast that includes Tim Meadows, Harriet Dyer, Molly Kearney, Alex Tarrant, Tony Cavalero, and Gigi Zumbado.
