Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld‘s seminal sitcom finally gets the physical release it deserves. The complete “Seinfeld” series debuted on Blu-ray and 4K UHD Tuesday morning, just in time for the show’s 35th anniversary and Columbia Pictures’ 100th anniversary.
The physical releases officially ships out on Dec. 17, and is available to order on Amazon starting today.
The release marks the show’s first leap from standard definition discs following an extensive and comprehensive 4K upgrade for the series. It will be presented in two separate editions: a Blu-ray edition featuring a high definition presentation of the series in a 1.78 format, and a limited edition 4K Ultra HD edition featuring the entire series presented in 4K resolution with High Dynamic Range at its original 1.33 aspect ratio.
In addition to all nine seasons of the show, the new discs also come with hours of special features including deleted scenes and commentaries from the cast and crew.
“Seinfeld, remains one of the definitive TV sitcoms of all time, forever altering the way comedy could be approached and what was acceptable behavior from characters you watched week in and week out. The show started off with a minuscule six-episode order at NBC (not exactly a vote of confidence) and yada yada yada ended in 1998 with 76 million people tuning into the series finale.
Few shows have embedded themselves in the pop culture landscape more so than “Seinfeld,” making things like “double dipper,” “re-gifting,” and “Festivus” household terms.
