Christopher Nolan Only ‘Loosely Pitched’ His New Movie to Tom Holland During Casting Meeting: ‘To Be Honest, I Don’t Really Know What It’s About’

Tom Holland is set to film Christopher Nolan‘s new movie in 2025 alongside Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Charlize Theron and more. But the “Spider-Man” actor remains mostly out of the loop for now on what he will actually be filming. Plot details are always under lock and key for new Nolan movies — that apparently holds true for the cast as well heading into the holidays.

“To be perfectly honest, I don’t really know what it’s about,” Holland recently said on “The Dish” podcast. “I’m super excited, but it’s been pretty quiet about the project. I met with [Nolan] and it was awesome. He kind of loosely pitched what it is, and I’m sure when he’s ready he’ll announce what it’s about”

Holland told “Good Morning America” in October that he would accept an offer to star in a Nolan movie “sight unseen,” which is more or less what happened on this upcoming project. Even without seeing a script, Holland said getting the offer from Nolan to star in his new film was the phone call “of a lifetime.”

“It was reminiscent of getting the call about ‘Spider-Man’ 10 years ago,” he added at the time. “It’s an amazing thing for me. I’m super proud and I’m really, really excited.”

Holland’s co-star Anne Hathaway is just as excited. She’ll be making her third appearance in a Nolan movie after “The Dark Knight Rises” and “Interstellar.” Hathaway recently told Women’s Wear Daily that being asked back for a third Nolan movie “makes me feel like I’m doing something right.”

“I have so many feelings about it that I don’t even know how to articulate,” Hathaway said. “It fills me with so much joy. … I love Chris and Emma Nolan so much, and to be invited into their world [is] one of the best places you can find yourself. Getting to be invited twice really felt like something, three felt like it would’ve been greedy, so I never let myself hope that that would happen, and that it has makes me emotional, to be perfectly honest.”

Nolan’s new movie will also be a first for Holland and Zendaya outside of their work in the “Spider-Man” franchise. He told the hosts of “The Dish” podcast that it’s a “saving grace” being able to work with his girlfriend on sets.

“Yeah, best thing that’s ever happened to me,” he said. “It’s just that perfect thing when you’re on set and a director will give you a note that maybe you don’t agree with, or I know that she doesn’t particularly like, and it’s just that, like, familiar glance at each other of like, can’t wait to talk about that later.”

Nolan is writing and directing the new movie, which Universal Pictures is releasing in theaters on July 17, 2026.
