MusiCares Person of the Year Event, Honoring Grateful Dead, Is Moving Ahead, Recording Academy Confirms

The 2025 MusiCares Person of the Year event, honoring the Grateful Dead, is moving ahead “with a special appeal for donations to support wildfire relief efforts,” the Recording Academy confirmed in an email sent to members on Tuesday.

While many Grammy Week events have been postponed or canceled due to the wildfires still raging in the event’s home city of Los Angeles, the Academy has emphasized throughout the week that as of now, the Grammy ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 2 at the Crypto.com Arena, and the MusiCares event will proceed.

However, Academy sources tell Variety that other Grammy Week events are being evaluated to determine if they should remain in their usual format or be re-imagined. The Academy announced on Monday that the 2025 Grammy ceremony “will carry a renewed sense of purpose: raising additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours.”
