Australian media giant Nine Entertainment Co. is undergoing a major organizational overhaul, announcing a streamlined operating model and fresh executive appointments as it targets AUD50 million ($31 million) in cost reductions for fiscal year 2025.
The company will consolidate its operations into three core divisions: streaming and broadcast, publishing, and marketplaces. In a key move, Nine has tapped industry veteran Amanda Laing to head the newly formed streaming and broadcast unit, which encompasses streamer Stan, livestream, video on demand, and catch-up TV service 9Now, broadcast television and radio. Laing joins from Foxtel Group, where she served as chief commercial and content officer, and managing director at Binge.
Publishing chief Tory Maguire will see her portfolio expand to include nine.com.au alongside the company’s prestigious mastheads The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and The Australian Financial Review. Meanwhile, Alex Parsons will oversee the new marketplaces division, which includes Domain and Drive, while maintaining his chief digital officer responsibilities.

The restructuring brings in James Boyce, former head of government and regulatory affairs at Paramount ANZ, as director of regulatory, public Affairs and communications. Nine will now operate with a streamlined eight-member executive team reporting to acting CEO Matt Stanton.
“Our operating model reset will help accelerate the strategic transformation underway at Nine by improving how the different parts of the business work together,” said Stanton. “Our new approach will better position the business to manage the challenging external environment and ensure the company is future-fit to sustainably deliver for our consumers, partners, shareholders and people.”
The sweeping changes aim to leverage Nine’s premium media assets while reducing operational redundancies. The restructure maintains Domain’s current business structure and governance as an ASX-listed entity.
Stanton highlighted Laing’s appointment, noting she is “one of the top media executives in the country” who will “add extraordinary industry expertise and energy to Nine’s experienced executive team in 2025,” while adding that Boyce will “sharpen the group’s focus on the evolving regulatory landscape.”
