Andscape, the Black content studio from Disney & ESPN, has announced the acquisition of Charles Todd and Matt Mitchener’s “Memes & Nightmares,” which will premiere Feb. 20 on Hulu.
Starring Josiah Johnson and Jamel Johnson, “Memes & Nightmares” is described as a “dark, satirical buddy-cop mystery” that “unravel(s) the culture of memes, viral moments, and digital fandom that have turned basketball into a 24/7 cultural phenomenon.” J.R. Smith, Flavor Flav, Jalen Rose, Metta World Peace, Gilbert Arenas, Matt Barnes, Jemele Hill, Darius Miles, The Kid Mero and Ros Gold also star.
“‘Memes & Nightmares’ is a brilliant and humorous dive into the world of sports memes, making it a perfect addition to our slate,” said Andscape VP Jason Aidoo. “We are thrilled to bring this project under the Andscape banner and to the Hulu audience… Andscape was founded at the intersection of sports and Black culture, and while our storytelling has expanded beyond that, sports culturalism remains our bloodline and the space we love to play in most.”
“Memes & Nightmares” was produced by Uninterrupted, Starry, and PepsiCo. “As the official soft drink of the NBA and WNBA, we pride ourselves on playing into pop culture – and nothing is more relevant today than the intersection of meme culture and sports,” said Starry VP of Marketing Michael Smith.

“As a co-creator of the film with Uninterrupted, Starry is able to bring its weirdly refreshing personality into the world of sports meme culture by spotlighting the humor of the leading players in ‘Memes & Nightmares.’”
