Timothée Chalamet Got a $73 Fine After Riding a Bike to the ‘A Complete Unknown’ London Premiere to Beat Traffic; He Didn’t Park It Properly

Timothée Chalamet’s global press tour for “A Complete Unknown” went viral when he rode an electric Lime bike into the London premiere of the acclaimed Bob Dylan movie. But it turns out, Chalamet did not park the bike properly, and he was met with a £60 fine, he revealed while promoting the movie in France on the talk show “Quotidien.” That fine equates to $73.45.

“It’s ecological!” Chalamet said when asked about his decision to ride an electric bike to the premiere of a major film like “A Complete Unknown.” The actor then admitted it all came down to beating traffic. In order to make it to the premiere on time, he hopped on a bike instead of taking a car.

The actor’s press tour for “A Complete Unknown” has been full of memorable moments. He appeared as a co-host on ESPN’s “College Game Day” in December and then sent social media into a tizzy by sporting some blonde highlights in order to recreate one of Bob Dylan’s most divisive looks. The press tour has worked in the film’s favor, as “A Complete Unknown” has been one of Searchlight Pictures’ biggest hits in recent years with $51 million and counting at the domestic box office.

Chalamet has earned critical acclaim for his performance as Bob Dylan in the film. He earned best actor nominations from the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, SAG Awards and BAFTAs, which makes him a near lock to earn an Oscar nomination in the same category. It will be Chalamet’s second career nomination for best actor following his first for “Call Me By Your Name.”

Shortly before “A Complete Unknown” opened in theaters, the real Bob Dylan took to X to praise Chalamet by writing: “Timmy’s a brilliant actor so I’m sure he’s going to be completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or some other me.”

Variety film critic Owen Gleiberman named “A Complete Unknown” one of the best films of 2024 and praised the actor in his review, writing: “Chalamet, singing in a nasal and slightly clenched voice, his tone as rock-steady as his gaze, sings out the lyrics as if they were an incantation…and at that moment, he becomes Bob Dylan. The voice, the hardscrabble directness, the spiritual harshness that melts into something lyrical — it’s all there.”
