Former MTV personality Matt Pinfield has been placed under a conservatorship following a massive stroke that he suffered earlier this month.
According to TMZ, the former Columbia Records executive and radio show host suffered a stroke on Jan. 6 after enduring various health struggles over the years. The 63-year-old is now apparently incompetent, and his daughter Jessica filed for conservatorship to manage his health and financial decisions over concerns that his girlfriend will withdraw his money.
A representative for Pinfield confirmed to Variety that he is currently hospitalized.
Los Angeles radio station KCSN where Pinfield hosted a show gave a statement a day after his stroke. “The SoCal Sound’s legendary DJ Matt Pinfield will take a temporary leave of absence for personal reasons,” read the station’s Facebook post. “We fully support Matt and hope to have his energetic rock n’ roll knowledge back on the air soon.”

Pinfield also hosted a Sunday evening show on 95.5 KLOS/Los Angeles. Its owners, Meruelo Media, shared a statement wishing him well on his path to recovery. “Everyone at KLOS & Meruelo Media, along with Matt’s family (daughters Jessica and Maya, brother Glen, sister Colleen, mother Nancy), his girlfriend Kara, and the entire rock and roll universe support Matt in taking some time off to rest and heal,” they said. “Matt is a family member, and we look forward to having him back on the KLOS airwaves as soon as possible. We know his fans across the country and all the artists feel the same way.”
On the day he suffered the stroke, Pinfield posted a positive message on his Instagram page that was looking towards the future. “Starting another week with gratitude for a life surrounded by great people, life changing music, and unforgettable experiences that I never take for granted,” he wrote. “Here to another week-another day-open heart and open mind. Let’s rock!”
Pinfield has been a rock mainstay for decades, kicking off his mainstream media career as host of MTV’s “120 Minutes.” In 2001, he became VP of A&R at Columbia Records, and throughout the years held DJ hosting gigs on various radio stations.
