Hans Zimmer Concert Film, ‘Diamond in the Desert,’ to Hit Big Screens in March

Hans Zimmer & Friends: Diamond in the Desert,” a concert film shot in Dubai that also includes documentary interviews with some of the stars and filmmakers the composer has worked with, will hit theaters globally starting March 19, Trafalgar Releasing announced Wednesday.

The bulk of the 158-minute film will be performance footage of Zimmer and his band and orchestra playing selections from films like “Dune,” “The Lion King,” “Gladiator” and “Interstellar,” in locations including Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena and Al Wasl Plaza dome at Expo City Dubai.

Not everyone in the film made the trek to Dubai, as the movie also includes interview footage with such figures as Billie Eilish, Finneas and Johnny Marr (who worked with Zimmer on “No Time to Die”), Christopher Nolan, Jerry Bruckheimer, Pharrell Williams, Tanya Lapointe and “Dune” principals Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya and Denis Villeneuve.

“The Hans Zimmer Live tour has been one of the most exciting experiences of my career,” Zimmer said in a statement, “and I’m thrilled to bring it to an audience in cinemas globally with Diamond in the Desert. Seeing these compositions transform from their big-screen origins to the live show then back to the big screen is a delightful full-circle moment. I hope audiences enjoy this peek behind the curtain as much as we enjoyed making it.”

Trafalgar’s other theatrical releases include concert films by Taylor Swift (international distribution of the “Eras Tour” movie), Beyoncé, BTS, Metallica, Oasis, Coldplay and Billie Eilish.

Screening locations will become available when tickets go on sale Feb. 5 at 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. ET at hanszimmerfilm.com. The film will screen in the Americas, Europe, Asia and United Arab Emirates, starting March 19, while it will be released in Australasia and other countries in the Middle East at a later date.
