Comedic Coming-of-Age Film ‘The Badgers’ Picked Up by Picture Tree, Trailer Debuts (EXCLUSIVE)

Picture Tree Intl. has secured the international sales rights for “The Badgers,” a family adventure film helmed by director Paul M. Lundø (“The Veil of Twilight”). The Norwegian film, which is in post-production, is anticipated for a theatrical release in Scandinavia during summer/autumn 2025. The trailer debuts here.

The heartwarming and comedic coming-of-age story follows 11-year-old Bernt, an orphan who dreams of becoming a celebrated Scout like his late father. When he is sent to live with his eccentric new foster mother, Gerdie, Bernt joins a quirky local Scout troop and sets his sights on winning the coveted Golden Scout Trophy, which bears his father’s name.

However, chaos ensues when Gerdie becomes the troop’s co-leader and clashes with their traditionalist leader, Gunnar. Through escapades that include wild animal encounters and uncovering buried secrets, Bernt must learn the true meaning of integrity and what it takes to become a hero.

Lundø said: “ ‘The Badgers’ is my love letter to childhood, adventure and the stories that shaped us. It’s a film for families to laugh, reflect, be inspired, and rediscover the magic of adventure within their own backyards.”

The film is produced by David L. Leader of 73 Eyes Productions (“Norsemen,” “Home for Christmas”) with support from the Norwegian Film Institute and regional film funds Zefyr and Filmkraft Rogaland.

The cast of “The Badgers” includes Øystein Martinsen (“Norsemen”), Caroline Johansen, Nils Elias Olsen (“The Burning Sea”) and Kristoffer Joner (“Mission Impossible: Fallout”).

Set in present-day, smalltown Norway, the film combines nostalgic storytelling with fresh, witty perspectives, that will entertain the entire family. The movie is positioned as the start of a potential franchise.

“ ‘The Badgers’ is a feel-good adventure that captures the essence of childhood dreams and the timeless clash between tradition and progress,” PTI’s co-managing director Yuan Rothbauer-Sui. “We are thrilled to bring this Norwegian gem to the global stage, starting with the European Film Market.”
