‘Wicked’ and ‘Agatha All Along’ Take Home Top Honors at ICG Publicists Awards

“Wicked” and “Agatha All Along” took top honors at the 62nd annual International Cinematographers Guild (ICG) Publicists Awards luncheon at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on Friday.

The ceremony honors individual publicists and unit still photographers who further publicity campaigns for film, TV and entertainment journalists. 

Variety’s senior entertainment reporter Angelique Jackson earned a nomination from ICG in the Press Award category.

The Bob Yeager Award for community service was presented to Ngoc Nguyen. The honor is given to someone who redefines what it means to lead with purpose.

Michele K. Short who won the Excellence in Unit Still Photography Award was unable to accept the award. Short who worked on unit still photography on HBO’s “True Detective: Night Country” thanked showrunner Issa Lopez. She called working on the show “a life-changing experience.”

Alex Tonisson, national executive director of IATSE Local 600’s International Cinematographers Guild reminded members of the hardship fund which provides grants to members affected by and impacted by the recent wildfires. He also stressed the need for more jobs in Los Angeles. He said, “I hope that everyone in this room will commit to future projects here, helping to sustain our community support stable income and give those affected the opportunity to rebuild their lives.” He called on the room to “Keep California Rolling,” a labor-led campaign to ensure that jobs remain the priority in the proposed expansion to California’s Film & Television Tax Credit Program.

Kathy Bates was honored with Television Showperson of the Year. Bates, currently starring on CBS’ “Matlock” thanked the publicists. She said, “When I first started in this business, I had no idea what that was all about. That’s back to 1990 when we first started talking about, ‘Misery,’ it was quite a shock to sit at a table full of people from all over the world, but having the publicists guide me through that was really so comforting at a scary time.” Bates also
