It was “Most Memorable Year” week on “Dancing With the Stars” — which meant the most emotional. In addition to a heartbreaking and beautiful tribute to the late Len Goodman, each of the celebrities looked back at an important moment in their lives.
Mira Sorvino paid tribute to “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion” with a contemporary routine to “Time After Time.” The dance featured her daughter, as they wore the matching dresses made so famous by Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow. However, due to the SAG strike, she couldn’t specifically talk about her time in the movie.
Harry Jowsey and Charity Lawson also performed contemporaries this week. Jowsey opened up about how he was attacked with hate on social media after rising to fame on “Too Hot to Handle,” which led him into a depression. Luckily, his friends took his phone away and helped him heal during that. For Lawson, she cried through her dance after explaining how she found a way to love herself after a past relationship.
“I feel like what you just did is what everyone’s going to remember about this season,” Carrie Ann Inaba said of Lawson’s routine with Artem Chigvintsev. Ultimately, Inaba gave them the first 10 of the season and Lawson couldn’t even respond she was so filled with so many emotions.
Mauricio Umansky‘s contemporary focused on when he entered the real estate market after being fired right before Christmas, with two kids at home. “My wife was clipping coupons in order to make ends meet,” he said of Kyle Richards, who encouraged him to follow his new career goals. After the dance, he said he had a very emotional week, but was able to get in touch with those feelings thanks to his partner and the routine.
Later in the night, Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy received a 10 from Derek Hough — his first of the season — after their powerful Viennese Waltz, while Barry Williams proved to be most improved, earning three 8s.
Alfonso Ribeiro revealed that this week had the closest votes of the season. In the end, Mira Sorvino and Gleb Savchenko were sent home.
