Annette Bening to Receive Spotlight Award From Costume Designers Guild (EXCLUSIVE)

Oscar-nominated actor Annette Bening is set to receive the Spotlight Award from the Costume Designers Guild.

The Spotlight Award honors an actor whose talent and career personify an enduring commitment to excellence, including a special awareness of the role and importance of costume design.

Bening, whose credits include “Bugsy,” “The Grifters,” “American Beauty” and more, has worked alongside costume designers such as Albert Wolsky and Julie Weiss.

Costume Designers Guild nominee Kelli Jones worked alongside Bening for “Nyad.” The film focuses on the true story of marathon swimmer Diana Nyad and her attempts to swim 110 miles from Cuba to Florida in her 60s.

Speaking with Variety last year for Actors on Actors, Bening told her “The Kids Are Alright” co-star Julianne Moore, “I grew up in San Diego; I’ve been in the water a lot. But I got in and started swimming and I thought, ‘Oh, my God, can I pull this off? And I have to be in a bathing suit?’ Which for some reason I hadn’t thought about enough.”

Past recipients include Andrew Garfield, Angela Bassett, Charlize Theron, Glenn Close, Kerry Washington, Cate Blanchett, Naomi Watts, Amy Adams, Anne Hathaway and Halle Berry.

The Costume Designers Guild awards will be handed out on Feb. 21 at Neuehouse in Hollywood, Ca.

“Maestro,” “Barbie,” “Poor Things” and “Oppenheimer” were among the films landing nominations. The costume designers behind “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Napoleon” will compete for the top prize in excellence in period film, while the artisans behind “American Fiction,” “May December,” “Nyad,” “Renfield” and “Saltburn” will compete for excellence in contemporary costume.

As previously announced, Francine Jamison-Tanchuck will be presented with the Career Achievement Award.
