SAG Awards 2024: ‘Oppenheimer’ Dominates as ‘Succession’ and ‘The Bear’ Win Top TV Prizes

Following the ups and downs that the Screen Actors Guild faced in 2023 — namely, a 118-day strike and a subsequent deal with the AMPTP led by president Fran Drescher — the 2024 SAG Awards represent a much-needed opportunity for the actors union to celebrate.

The double bill phenomenon affectionately known as “Barbenheimer” led this year’s film nominations with four each. “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” were both recognized for their ensembles, while the former received nods for lead female actor (Margot Robbie), supporting male actor (Ryan Gosling) and stunt ensemble while the latter was nominated for lead male actor (Cillian Murphy), supporting male actor (Robert Downey Jr.) and supporting female actor (Emily Blunt).

“Succession” led the TV nominations with five nods. Three were in the male drama actor category (Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin and Matthew Macfadyen), while the show was also nominated for female drama actor (Sarah Snook) and drama ensemble. “The Bear,” “The Last of Us” and “Ted Lasso” were the next most nominated TV titles with four apiece.

Sunday’s ceremony, taking place at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall, streams live on Netflix beginning at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET.
