JonBenét Ramsey Limited Series in Development at MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios

A limited series about the murder of JonBenét Ramsey is currently in development at MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, Variety has learned.

The official logline for the project states that it “details the mysterious death and the surrounding media frenzy in the murder of JonBenét Ramsey, a case that captivated an entire nation and left us with more questions than answers.”

Richard LaGravenese is attached to serve as executive producer and showrunner on the project. Harrison Query and Tommy Wallach sold the project to MTVES and 101 and are also executive producers.

LaGravenese has mostly worked in film during his career. He has worked on the screenplays for films such as “Unbroken,” “Water for Elephants,” “Freedom Writers,” and “The Horse Whisperer.” He also directed “Freedom Writers,” as well as films like “PS I Love You” and “Beautiful Creatures,” with LaGravenese also having written the latter two as well.

He is repped by CAA, LBI Entertainment, and Schreck Rose.

Ramsey was just six years old when she was murdered, with her body discovered in the basement of her family home in Colorado hours after her parents reported her missing. There have been numerous theories as to who killed her, including that it was a family member or someone who broke into the house, but the case is still officially open.

The case was the subject of intense media attention at the time and continues to be even over 25 years later. Several documentaries and news specials have been made about the case to date.
