“RRR” star Ram Charan‘s 16th film, currently identified as “RC16,” was launched on Wednesday by his father, Telugu-language cinema megastar Chiranjeevi.

The film has been described as one that will take audiences on a “rural, emotional and rustic journey.” It will be directed by Buchi Babu Sana, who won the best Telugu-language film award at India’s National Film Awards for his debut “Uppena” (2021). Sana previously served as a writer and assistant director to “Pushpa” filmmaker Sukumar on hit film “Rangasthalam” (2018).

“RC16” is being produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru for Vriddhi Cinemas and is presented by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar via his Sukumar Writings. Janhvi Kapoor (“Mili”) will star alongside Charan. Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman (“Slumdog Millionaire”) will provide the music. Chandrabose, who wrote the Oscar and Golden Globe-winning “Naatu Naatu” song in “RRR” will write the lyrics. Cinematography is by R. Rathnavelu (“Rangasthalam”), editing is by Antony L. Ruben (“Jawan”) and action choreography by Supreme Sunder (“Animal”). The crew also includes art director Avinash Kolla (“Major”) and costume designer Deepali Noor (“Pushpa”).

Besides the film crew, other luminaries present at the launch included Sukumar, S. Shankar, who is directing Charan’s next film “Game Changer” and producer Boney Kapoor (“Thunivu”), who said he is planning to remake “Uppena” in the Hindi language.

Sana said: “Honored to welcome everyone present, especially megastar Chiranjeevi. I must admit, I’m overwhelmed by the esteemed guests and my esteemed mentor, Sukumar. I extend my gratitude to Ram Charan for this incredible opportunity that emerged from my days as the ‘Rangasthalam’ assistant director. I’m determined to make the most of it.”
