‘Will Trent’ Renewed for Season 3 at ABC

Will Trent” has been renewed for Season 3 at ABC.

The news comes as the police procedural, which is based on the Karin Slaughter’s Will Trent novels, has aired five episodes of its second season. The show has proven to be popular with audiences, building on its ratings each week since its second season premiered. Most recently, the show delivered its highest-rated episode ever with just over 9 million multiplatform viewers over seven days, per ABC.

Ramón Rodríguez stars in the series in the title role of Trent, the top agent at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Despite suffering from dyslexia and a childhood spent in the foster care system, Trent is able to solve cases others can’t due to his unique point of view.

The series also stars Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner, Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, and Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood.

Liz Heldens and Daniel Thomsen developed the series for television and serve as executive producers. Slaughter is also an executive producer on the show, as is Oly Obst. Rodríguez serves as a co-executive producer in addition to starring. 20th Television is the studio. Heldens is currently under an overall deal at 20th TV.

This is the third ABC drama series renewal in the past two days. The network previously renewed “9-1-1” for an eighth season and then renewed “Grey’s Anatomy” for a 21st season. The renewal will bring “9-1-1” back for its second season on ABC, as the show aired on Fox for its first six seasons before it moved over for Season 7.
