Award-winning songwriter, producer, musician, and self-made chef Benny Blanco‘s latest drop isn’t a hot new track but a sweet little tie-dye apron. Working with world-renowned cookware company HexClad, the duo dreamed up a new spin on their eco modern apron.
This apron drop lands shortly before Blanco’s highly anticipated cookbook, “Open Wide: A Cookbook for Friends,“ now available for preorder ahead of its official release on April 30, 2024. The book features inventive recipes like “Lose Your Mind Lobster Rolls” and “Please Marry Me Martha Stewart Latkes.” While Stewart has yet to respond to Blanco’s request, he remains optimistic. “I haven’t heard from her yet, but maybe if this book does well enough, she’ll call me,” Blanco told Variety over email.
But before he was all over TikTok testing out viral recipes and food challenges or getting up to delightful hijinks with “The Bear’s” Matty Matheson (Blanco boasts over 5 million followers) he was creating music with your favorite artists. The creator’s rolodex of musicians he’s worked with in the past includes SZA, Gracie Abrams, Halsey, Maroon 5, Katy Perry, Snoop Dogg and loads more.
HexClad’s cookware is known for its durability and nonstick pans, and the brand has previously teamed up with Chef Gordon Ramsay and Michelin-starred Chef Clare Smyth.
The lavender and white tie-dyed collab is made from HexTwill, a sustainable fabric composed of 100% recycled plastic bottles. Besides being cute, it offers practical features such as a phone or pen pocket and a towel loop. Plus, it’s oil and water-resistant.
Blanco expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership: “It’s tie-dye, which you pretty much see me in almost all the time. But it’s also really important to me when working with anyone to be environmentally conscious, and this apron is 100% recycled plastic bottle fabric. On top of that it has lots of cute pockets.”
The inspiration behind Blanco’s cookbook stems from his love of hosting impromptu parties and sharing the joy of cooking with friends. “Most of my inspiration in cooking comes from my friends,” he explained. “I’m incredibly lucky to have so many people I’m close with who are either amazing home cooks or brilliant professionals. It’s really hard to pick a favorite, but I always love making the latkes.”
Hexclad is currently selling the pink and purple apron singularly, or, you can bundle it all together with Blanco’s “Open Wide.” Check out Variety’s celebrity cookbook gift guide and TV and movie-themed cookbook guide here.
