Search Google for ‘Squid Game’ and You Can Play a Surprise Game From the Netflix Series

Ahead of the Season 2 premiere of global hit “Squid Game,” Google is getting in on the deadly fun and games.

Netflix partnered with Google Search on the Easter egg activation. To play the game, search “Squid Game” on Google and tap the brown envelope that appears at the bottom of the screen.

The Google Search game features the red light-green light challenge from the show, presided over by the murdering animatronic girl doll Young-Hee. In the game, you must advance a line of six sweat-suit-clad contestants forward (by pressing the blue circle) while Young-Hee’s head is turned away. You must stop them before she turns around (by pressing the red “x”); if you don’t, you lose one of your players, who is tastefully dissolved into thin air instead of getting shot and killed as in the show.

If any of your contestants make it over the finish line without being eliminated, you are rewarded with a shower of confetti. If all six players get zapped, however — well, you can always try again.

The game is available worldwide and works on both desktop and mobile web browsers.

In addition to the Google game, on Dec. 17, Netflix launched the multiplayer battle-royale game “Squid Game: Unleashed” and made it free for everyone to play — breaking from its usual strategy of making its games available exclusively to Netflix subscribers.

There’s also the VR adventure “Squid Game: Virtuals” and numerous consumer product and brand tie-ins, including a large Mattel doll based on Young-Hee, as well as partnerships Dominos, Xbox, Duolingo, Puma, Dos Equis XX, Carl’s Jr. and Olive Young.

“Squid Game” Season 2 premieres on Netflix worldwide on Dec. 26. The streamer has renewed the show for a third and final season, to debut in 2025.
