Spencer Boldman is set to star in a new biopic about blind country musical legend Ronnie Milsap. The film will be based on his autobiography “Almost Like a Song.” The film is being packaged by its executive producer, Gary Negherbon of Negherbon Media Group, and Boldman’s longtime manager, Antonia DeNardo. Boldman will also be an executive producer on the film.
Milsap had congenital blindness from birth. He went on to became a successful country crossover singer and was known for incorporating pop, R&B, and rock elements into chart-topping hits such as “It Was Almost Like a Song,” “I Wouldn’t Have Missed It for the World,” “Any Day Now,” “Smoky Mountain Rain,” and “(There’s) No Gettin’ Over Me.” He was awarded six Grammy Awards, winning the coveted 1991 Country Music Entertainer of the Year Award. He was also inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2014.
Boldman recently appeared in Hulu’s limited series “Welcome to Chippendales” alongside Kumail Nanjiani, Murray Bartlett and Juliette Lewis. He starred as Adam Davenport on Disney Channel’s “Lab Rats,” appeared in “21 Jump Street,” and starred opposite Zendaya in the Disney Channel original movie, “Zapped.” He also appeared in “Cruise” opposite Emily Ratajkowski and Sebastian Maniscalco.

Negherbon has served as a personal and business manager for some of the world’s biggest rock bands and music artists. “We are so excited that Spencer embraced our project, with the passion and enthusiasm that he has, and I know audiences will be stunned and moved by his portrayal of Ronnie,” said Negherbon in a statement. “Hearing Ronnie’s amazing story of survival, determination and ultimate achievement, I knew that this was a story that had to be shared with the world and I can’t wait for audiences to see Spencer in this role.”
Boldman has spent time with Milsap at his Nashville home. The singer gave Boldman his blessing to portray him. Milsap will also serve as a producer on the film.
“It is an honor for me to help execute Ronnie’s incredible story as well as portray him in the film. Having personally spent time with this living legend and get his blessing, is a gift. I can’t wait to make him and his fans proud,” Boldman said in a statement.
