Tom Holland Broke Up a Supermarket Brawl After the Fighter Knew Him as Spider-Man: ‘I’m Really Angry, but Spider-Man Is Telling Me to Calm Down’

Tom Holland said in a new cover story for Men’s Health that he managed to break up a fight in a Los Angeles supermarket because he’s Spider-Man, of course. Holland has played the web-slinger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War,” and he’s been at the center of three standalone “Spider-Man” movies.

“They’re like going at it, right behind me,” Holland said of the supermarket fight, noting that he jumped into it to grab one of the men and pull him away. “I can see that he’s recognized me immediately, and you could see the wheels turning, like, ‘I’m really angry, but Spider-Man is telling me to calm down.’ So, yeah, I go to the supermarket.”

While Holland will go out to pick up some groceries, attending public events is a different story. He told the publication that he often avoids most non-mandatory events, as his attendance can cause quite the scene. If he’s trying to go watch a play in the afternoon, for instance, he calls ahead to ensure he can attend without much public fanfare (“It’s booked in advance, we sort it all out, we call ahead to the theater and make sure we can get somewhere private,” he explained).

Holland is now gearing up for a busy 2025. He has appeared in three “Spider-Man” movies and will be filming a fourth this year. He will also shoot Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” sometime in 2025. These projects will mark Holland’s first movie gigs in over a year. His last major screen production was the Apple TV+ series “The Crowded Room,” which began shooting in May 2022.

“There was quite a lot of animosity on that set,” Holland recalled of making the series, which earned mostly negative reviews from critics. “It was not a very harmonious place, and there was a lot of arguing and butting heads.”

As for “Spider-Man 4,” Holland said on the “Rich Roll Podcast” last month that the pitch for the movie was “excellent,” adding: “The writers are doing a great job. I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room like this is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.”
