Jeremy Renner Says ‘I Stand Strong Again’ on Two-Year Anniversary of Snow Plow Accident and Quips: ‘I Am Sorry’ to Medical Staff for ‘All the Haunting Images’

Jeremy Renner marked the second anniversary of his near-death snow plow accident with an emotional post on his Instagram page featuring a photo of himself in the hospital, surrounded by the medical staff who saved his life and helped him recover.

“Ringing in my second ‘ReBirthday’ today,” Renner wrote in the caption. “I send out my love, respect, and gratitude for the army of people that it took to put me back together again. Thank you to each and every nurse, doctor, first responder… I literally owe you my life. All my heart goes out to my beautiful, brave nephew and the angels (my neighbors) who jumped to my aid and endured the chaos for 45 long minutes on the icy asphalt New Years morning. I’m so sorry all the haunting images I imprinted on you all (I’ll spare you all from the meat grinding images).”

Renner was hospitalized for blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries on Jan. 1, 2023, after his Sno-Cat, a large snow plow that weighs at least 14,330 pounds, ran him over. The actor was trying to help his nephew out of the snow near his home in Lake Tahoe when the Sno-Cat crushed him. His injuries included eight ribs broken in 14 places, right knee and ankle broken, left leg tibia broken, left ankle broken, right clavicle broken, right shoulder broken and more.

“My gratitude list is very long,” Renner continued in the anniversary post. “With the amount of love and prayers that flooded in from you all around the world (needing each and everyone of them), my family never leaving my side , with some divine intervention, a bit of luck and a whole lot of miracles … I stand strong again. More Open. More Loved. More Connected. And fucking BLESSED to take my next step, to take MY NEXT BREATH. Thank you with every fiber and cell in my body. I love you ALL.”

After a months-long recovery process, Renner was able to return to his acting career by filming the third season of his popular Paramount+ drama series “Mayor of Kingstown.” The series was recently renewed for a fourth season. Renner also filmed Rian Johnson’s third “Knives Out” movie last year (officially titled “Wake Up Dead Man”) alongside Daniel Craig, Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Kerry Washington and more. The movie is likely to be released sometime in 2025.

Renner admitted on the “Smartless” podcast last year that his acting return was challenging and he just didn’t “have the energy” to take on demanding roles following the accident.

“I just don’t have the energy for it. I don’t have the fuel,” Renner said at the time. “I have so much fuel to put into this reality, this body, all this stuff. I can’t just go play make-believe right now. Because that takes a lot of time to get right here every day just so I can have a positive thought, so I can progress, so I can always keep growing.”
