Discovery+ Hikes Price for Ad-Free and Ad-Supported Plans

Discovery+ is increasing the price for both its ad-free and ad-supported tiers by $1.

As of Tuesday, the price for the streaming service in the U.S. will be $5.99 for the ad-supported monthly plan and $9.99 a month for the ad-free option. The prices are effective immediately for new customers, while existing subscribers will not see the hiked fee until their next billing cycle on or after Feb. 7.

The last time Discovery+ increased the price of its ad-free option was October 2023, when it raised it to $8.99 from $6.99. Until this change in cost, the ad-supported option has held steady at its $4.99 pricing since the service launched in 2021.

Owned by Warner Bros. Discovery and sister streamer to Max, Discovery+ is currently touting library titles including “90 Day: The Last Resort,” “Moonshiners,” “Gold Rush,” “Evil Lives Here,” and “Home Town,” as well as new seasons of “My 600-lb Life” (premiered Jan. 1), “Worst Cooks in America Celebrity Edition: Heroes vs. Villains” (Jan. 5), “The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: The Final Chapter” (Jan. 6), and “Baylen Out Loud” (Jan. 13).

Popular on Variety

Warner Bros. Discovery has positioned Discovery+ as a niche streamer devoted to its legacy Discovery brands — Food Network, TLC, HGTV, Discovery, ID and more — while Max is the premier service for the larger Warner Bros. catalogue and streaming originals. What’s available on Discovery+ is available on Max, but not vice versa. So Discovery+ is a cheaper option (Max costs $9.99 with ads and $16.99 for the ad-free choice) for customers who are more interested in the lifestyle content than the HBO-and-more lineup on Max.
